Techcrunch'd

TechCrunch posted a summary of the MobileCrunch review.  A couple of items to note:

  • scanR requires 1 megapixel cameras for whiteboard scanning and 2 megapixel cameras for document scanning.
  • Document scans are returned as searchable PDF files. The text is extracted and keywords are tagged into the hidden text of the PDF.  To find documents from scanR, just search using standard desktop search tools.
  • We chose PDF output since it is portable across platforms, prints well and allows for multiple pages in a single document.  We may provide a JPEG option in the future.

We rely on our users for feedback.  If you have questions or comments, send them to help@scanR.com.

The service is undoubtedly niche and be interesting to see how they fair. Out of curiousity, we tried the service ourselves. It's quick, but we found we could upload and convert the file ourselves faster. Of course, there's no substitute when you aren't near a computer.

Somehow, someway, my site completely crashed - thus the second post. I actually found myself in need of the service today at an off-site meeting, but was a bit bummed since I have a VGA! phone. I have told my co-workers about the service however.
